jansen & spaltabaka, duo working at the intersection of art and design, with an approach rooted in digital design techniques. In their research-based practice they focus on observing, analysing and interpreting phenomena that occur where the organic world, technology and the symbolic sphere meet. They translate these into sculptural objects.
Zuzanna Spaltabaka is a lecturer at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, and Igor Jansen is a doctoral candidate at the Faculty of Architecture of the Warsaw University of Technology and a design engineer working in collectible design. Working together since 2023, the duo integrates contemporary design technologies - 3D scanning and digital sculpting - with traditional craft and raw materials: ceramics, metal, glass and wood. They are winners and grant recipients of multiple competitions.
Both artists are based in Warsaw, Poland.
The duo’s work has been shown internationally in group exhibitions, including Homo Faber 2024 The Journey of Life in Venice and Collectible 2023 in Brussels, as well as in numerous exhibitions across Poland, among them Craft days at Willa Gawrońskich in Warsaw. Their works presented at Abu Dhabi, from the Corpus Ornamentum series, examines the sculptural potential of nature in moments of quiet struggle, dependency and tension. The artists investigate structures born of the fight for light and survival - the interlacing of ivy, the galleries bored by bark beetles – redefining ornament as a record of interaction and a sculptural “scar” rather than an addition to form.

For its first presentation at NOMAD Abu Dhabi 2026, the gallery brings together a selection of Polish artists and designers whose practices explore the relationship between material, craftsmanship, technology and the human experience.
