Monomoka

The duo of twin sisters and it is a combination of the word mono (unity, togetherness) and the first syllables of the founders’ names. Monika Gwiazdowska and Katarzyna Gwiazdowska. Visual artists and architects. They both graduated from the Faculty of Architecture at Wrocław University of Science and Technology, where they received their architecture degrees in 1998. Sisters Gwiazdowski for many years they have been creating art textiles but also design objects.

Their main focus is crotchet textile work. MONOMOKA's practice has evolved over the years. Its roots go back to early childhood, to the first attempts at crocheting "anything at all." Mastering that skill later led to purely functional furniture forms — a series of a dozen or so minimalist designer poufs, which became the starting point for the creative duo's further artistic path. Simple crochet, the technique of hand embroidery, and the use of craft tradition became MONOMOKA's artistic language.

Monika Gwiazdowska and Katarzyna Gwiazdowska live and work in Wrocław Poland.

Over the past years, Monomoka’s work has been presented at numerous international fairs, as well as group and solo exhibitions. Including Maison et Object in Paris (2013), Beijing Design Week (2013) and DMY Berlin (2013). In 2013, the artistic duo received the Grand Award and Merit Award at the International Furniture Fair Singapore.
