Fragment 7.1 is part of Fragment series, which explores remnants and partial forms rather than finished wholes. The works resemble offcuts from regular oval shapes, reflecting artist's interest in the aesthetics of leftovers and waste. In this series Anna designs only the general form and proportions; the final shape emerges during direct work with the material, intentionally preserving imperfections.

The sculpture is hand-carved from a monolith of poplar burl, following the natural twist of the wood fibers. Softer areas were carved away while dense burl sections remain smooth and polished, creating strong contrasts between fur-like textures and stone- or metal-like surfaces. Anna's polishing technique enhances these differences, producing transitions from matte, pigment-rich areas to subtle or mirror-like reflections in tones of blue, black, purple, and red. Its color, texture, and lava-like forms were unconsciously influenced by my recent experience of Mount Etna, where witnessing flowing lava left a strong aesthetic and existential impression.
