The titular light is cast by the Hani lamps—a project initiated in 2015 during a three-month residency in Japan in 2015. Made from fragile cedar wood veneer, the lamps aesthetically reference origami, and their colors resonate with the larch spatial objects that embody the artist’s more vigorous gestures. The installation presents works shown together for the first time.
For Paweł Jasiewicz, the physical act of working with wooden objects is a form of meditation and pleasure. The artist reimagines the qualities of softwood—an ordinary and often undervalued material—pushing the limits of its durability. With passion, he investigates the potential of wood, frequently straining its structure to the edge in search of new artistic gestures. In his struggle with the raw material, he persistently expands the field of experimentation, revealing the noble character of the wood and uncovering entirely new meanings.
Paweł Jasiewicz
Furniture designer, artist and researcher at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw (Poland). Graduate in furniture design and technology from Buckinghamshire New University. His work blurs the line between design and art. The artist’s search for forms, materials and techniques is accompanied by playful lightness and curiosity of the world. As a scientific researcher, he travels to various workshops around the world to see and document different approaches to wood. As a designer and artist, he reinterprets the acquired knowledge and techniques in his creations.
