Zofia Sobolewska-Ursic’s cabinet brings together the meticulous art of straw marquetry with sculptural craftsmanship. Its intricate composition depicts tulips—flowers traditionally associated with different forms of love—captured at various stages of their life cycle. Arranged in a swirling, continuous movement, the motif reflects on the transience of love and its enduring capacity for renewal.

Each element of the composition is individually cut and assembled by hand, using the natural variations, direction and sheen of straw to create depth, rhythm and subtle shifts of light across the surface. The precise marquetry is juxtaposed with sculptural metal ornamentation in aluminium while the wardrobe rests on a hand-sculpted oak pedestal charred by fire, introducing a raw, tactile contrast to the refined surface above. Entirely handcrafted, the work transforms a functional object into a poetic meditation on emotional cycles, transformation and the rhythms of nature.
